Peeps

   Posted by: Blondies Blog

It’s been brought to my attention that it’s been awhile.  So let’s get up to date.  The most exciting thing that has happened recently is…

Blackie and Peeper (now known as Goldie)

Blackie and Peeper/Goldie were hatched out at Chandler’s school.

Blackie and Peeper/Goldie are going to help us expand our flock.  Chandler’s in love.

Blackie and Peeper/Goldie came with two other eggs that never hatched.

The eggs came from Wingshadow Ranch in Southern California.   I highly recommend taking a look at their ranch, um, that is if you are reading this blog because ranches and chickens interest you (Julie).

They have an enviable (to me) ranch with chickens, quails, goats, at least 1 pig and lots of fresh vegetables that they sell to a restaurant in San Diego.

I would love to work toward something like that here on my little ranch.  In fact it’s close to my grand plan for this place.  Imagine, fresh organic vegetables, fruits and herbs, the hens and their fresh organic eggs. Ahh, a girl can dream right?  Actually, I have a steady customer for my eggs (okay, she’s bought twice now and expressed that she is interested on being a regular).  So we need to ramp up production to support phase II of Rancho Fab-u-loso.  Ha ha, more like Casa Cost-a-lotta.

But wait, two chicks to expand a flock and provide eggs for sale (and support a family of 4 - just kidding)???  I know, two is not nearly enough, plus they could be roos not pullets!  That’s okay though, cause I am going to take the girls on a tour Wingshadow Ranch this month (hey Julie, wanna come along?).  At that time I will pick-up some more chicks and some fresh goats cheese and goats yogurt… maybe even some veggies.  Hmmm, I wonder if I could trade my labor (making cheese) for the peeps.  Or just for the learning…  I have always wanted to make cheese.

Okay, back to the peeps, I think Chandler’s in love.  Here she is watching sponge bob with Goldie…

I have to admit, I love the chickens, I think they are a thing of beauty.  But I don’t watch television with them.  But perhaps we can watch an Iron Chef episode… is it really more tramatic for the chicks to watch a cooking program or to watch sponge bob?

Tomorrow a review of Barefoot Contessa’s Roasted Chicken… Shhh.  Don’t tell them…

Mise en place, not

   Posted by: Blondies Blog

Mise en place (pronounced miz a~n plas) is a french phrase used in the culinary world,  meaning everything in its place.  As in, you have everything in its place before you start…

Okay, so technically this little blog was to be up and running January 1st… uh, well - many things prevented that from happening.  You know it’s hard to find time when your mother of the year, have the perfectly organized home and the best behaved children (and husband) and in general the perfect- blah, blah, blah!  The reality is that taking this step has been a huge undertaking for me.  I thought I would be so organized, with a thesis and a functioning-train-of-thought, but not so much.  What I have is a desire to get going and a laundry list of content ideas.  So why take myself so seriously?  I don’t generally subscribe to the serious blog - it makes my eyes twitch and I yawn a lot.  Who wants that?

I just want to have fun.

No time for mise en place - so here it is.  I am a food obsessed mother of 2, wife of 1 (sometimes I think mother of 1, wife of 2 might be easier…), I’m right brained - no left brained - uh, I often function with no brain.  My interests are very fragmented, intense and then fleeting (don’t laugh, I can’t be the only one) and I am simply complicated.

Hypothetically,  some of my first posts will be about my girls, my chickens, my garden, the construction of my wood-fired oven and oh, my Mr. Perfect (seriously).  But really, when you suffer from ADD, MPD and OCD you really never know what will show up here…
